Viruses cannot spread without help. Unfortunately, help for the virus is often at hand because many things that are done during dahlia cultivation increase virus spread. There are 3 ways that viruses can be introduced and spread throughout a planting:
- Vectors – insects such as aphids, thrips, nematodes and fungi
- Virus infected or contaminated seed, tubers and plants
- Spread by physical contact and wounding
